2 this exhibit. - Coleman advised that be had sent to the Bureau
by special messenger on the morning of Aug. 19, 1943. : eman checked
with his clerk, however, and discovered that the memorandum and exhibit had
been sent through the regular mail and therefore it would probably not arrive
at the Bureau before this evening.
& Se ma During the course of the conversation, SA made an inci-
dental reference to his previous conversation on Augus , 3, with ir.
. Coleman, wherein the latter stated that the Attormey General might suggest
BS Sc to the Office of Price Administration that it withhold any contemplated
im §6/ 4 prosecution of Lewis for wiolation of the pleasure driving ban in view of
. J #3 the fact that the Teparteent was contemplating a more serious prosecution
of lewis. In this regard Mr. Coleman stated that the Attorney General had
indicated to his that be would attempt to have the OPA prosecution stopped.
Mr. Coleman then advised that in the event the Attorney General did not take
any action on this matter within the next day or so, he, himself, with the
permission of the Attorney General, would attempt to have the OPA informed
of the Department's contemplated prosecution in this case. In this regard,
it was pointed out to Mr. Coleman that the Bureau, of course, contemplated
no action relative to the possible OPA prosecution as it was a matter within -
the province of the Department. Mr. Coleman indicated that he agreed vf
