was named by the President on 7/28/65 as Director of the Voice of America.
Request received 7/27/65 from White House for investigation of Chancellor,

TE Investigation now complete, except for a few isolated leads,
Chancellor ‘was areporter for the “Chicago Sun-Times” from 1948 to 1950.
Since 1950 he has’ been employed as news commentator and news correspondent
by the National Broadcasting Company in Chicago, Vienna, Moscow, “London,
Brussels, New York and Washington, D.C. Since September, 1964, he has been

Two Chicago criminal informants, one of whom is a homosexual, have =
advised that Chancellor is known in homosexual circles in Chicago as "one of
us and friendly to us." It was stated that Chancellor is referred to by
"fags" as "Mother Chancellor,” They advised that in conversation with other
"queers" in Chicago the others had indicated Chancellor was queer, but they
had never been “out" with him; however, he "traveled with the crowd.” It was
said he had fréquented a night club in Chicago known as a “queer joint" and
belonged to the. "home crowd,” which means he does not openly display his.
affections, but, does so only with a select group in secure places. “>
