I told Se, ad:called over on Monday, 7/26/65, with a request that a full field investigation be started on this same person. I told Watson that ad requested a name check on Chancellor on Saturday, 7/10/65, a@ memorandum had been furnished to her regarding this matter. I told Watson that while a check of files and a check of the Identification Division had Shown no identifiable derogatory information, this, of course, did not mean that a full field investigation would not reflect derogatory information. Watson replied that the President was ina hurry and wanted to name Chancellor as Director ¢ the Voice of America within the next Several hours. He asked if I could determine if the full field investigation had reflected anything derogatory thus far. I told him it was too early to determine this, that our leads in this matter had just been sent out. Watson stated that he felt the President would go ahead and name Chanc¢flor anyhow.
