On the afternoon of 4/3/56, EDWARD A. DAVIES called at the woe

DAVIES stated that he wes a major in the first World War and main- a

was called to active duty in 1940 and in 1942 was discharged when t “
he failed to pass a physical examination. He was then appointed as aoa

DAVIES, who refers to himself as Col fDAVIES, said he was { |
instrumental in the establishment of the Long Beach, Island. Founda - |
tion for the Arts and,Sciences. The idea behind the establishment
of this organization was to heve a colony in New Jersey which would Nee
attract artists and sculptors similar to those attracted to Cape OF
Cod. He was the first president of this foundation in 1948 and 1949. Ne

One of the first projects of the foundation was to establish
a memorial to the war dead of Ocean County, New Jersey. BORIS BLAI,

Another Harvey Cedars resident, H. C. PORTNAUF (ph.) had 3
a house at Harvey Cedars which was used as headquarters for ALGER
HISS, WHITTAKER CHAMBERS, HARRY DEXTER WHITE, WALTBR-R
SILVERMASTER, ULLMAN, and BLAI.
