NY 105-10101 ; On April 7, 1956, the "New York Times", in an article date lined "Princeton, New Jersey" indicated that HISS was to speak on the Princeton University campus April 26, 1956, His talk was to be under the sponsorship of the American Whig-Cliosophic Society, The title of his talk would be "The Meaning of Geneva", Hewowd relate the meaning of last summers summit meeting at Geneva in relation to the Yalta Conference, This article indicated thet the American Whig- Cliosophic Society, the oldest undergraduate political and literary society in the country, is sponsoring a series of speeches this spring, The article went on to state that one BRUCE BERINGGOLD, President of the organization, had stated that "while the society does not approve of Mr, Hiss! record, we feel that his career is still an issue and that his views would be of general interest to the faculty and student body", | On March 22, 1956, confidentiel informant ‘T-l, who was in a position to furnish reliable informetion con- cerning HISS, advised thet HISS is about one-third fin-~ ished with a book that he is writing. This source stated that the book begins when HISS was called to testify be- fore a Congressional Committee in August, 1948, and that the major themeof the book is the "“Inconclusiveness of the Evidence" against HISS, T-l) further stated that HISS is using as a guide and reference for this work, a book written by Lord LOWITT, entitled, "The Strange Case OF Alger Hiss", He seid that ISS and his publishers were trying to print during the fall of 1956. T-h coneluded by stating thet for the present time, WISS is subsisting on contributions which he receives in the mail, He could not elaborate further on this statement, 103638
