“our present group i composed intentionally of only &
few convinced people who find joy in the work and in the
sacrifice it involves. They do not wish to form any new
organization - tnere are already a vast number of different
orgarizations emong the German Youth - but simply a working
group, who, following their own consciences as Socialists,
ars wenceforth taking an international standpoint. The anal
object of our work is the service ard spreading of the icea ”
of cur common humanity. Out of all the possible directions
in which we might work to this end, we have taken two for
specially intensive development; (1) Personal correspondence ~
with like-minded foreigers, with the & ject of purifying the
relations of the sations to one ancther; and (2) practical
assistance to the aged in our own land. The methods of
carrying out the first task are: studying Esperanto together,
exchange of correspondence, evenings devoted to reading end
@istussion about foreign writers and conditions; as soon as
possible exchange of visits s0 that foreigners may come to
us and we to them as guests; the enlightenment of the press
in our own country. The assistance of the aged we carry out
on the following lines, partly by ourselves and partiy by
stimlating and organizing the various Youth Societies which
are sympathetic towards us; permanent cooperation with the
public welfare officials, the fetching of food fran the
villages and shops, collecting wood, mending and washing
clothes, helping them in their dealings vith the author ties,
and reading aloud. Since we are all in employment and can
only do this work in our spare time, we have plenty to do.
But there is joy in it."
