For purposes of discussion students were divided into S50
"groups, but no matter with what topic these groups began they
practically all ended with e ciscussion of the problem of war and
peace. Four resolutions were finally presented to the general
en ne
session in an informal ballot taken, the result of which, accord-
ing to the Intercollegian, the Student Christian Movement paper,
was as follows:
150 voted for the position: We believe that preparation for the
emergency of var fe the pest way to avoid war; there-
fore we urge our nation so to prepare tnat any future
™., war shall ve brought to a speedy and ri gnteous
termination.
4,000 voted for the position: We velieve that war is unchristian
and should be abolished through a process of education,
but that non-resistance is now impracticable, and thet
occasion may arise vherein it is our duty to engage
in war after all means of prevention have failed.
5,000 voted for the position: We believe that war is unchristian
and that the League of Netions is the best means of
preventing it, tat we should resort to wer in cese an
unavoidable dispute head been referred to the League or
orld Court without successful settlement.
700 voted for the position: We believe that henceforth war is an
utter denial of Jesus’ way of life, ineffective as &
means of settling difficulties between nations. There-
fore, we declare our resolve not to sanction or
participate in eny future war.
Following this Convention vigorous discussions of the whole
problem of war have been carried on in many of the ‘universities
and colleges throughout the country. _
