Reference my memorandum to you, 5-29-74, entitled
"The Congressional Record, May 28, 1974," in which it was reported
that the Senate had passed and cleared for the President H. R. 1817,
for the striking of national medals to honor the late J. Edgar Hoover.
Attached is a copy of the Act which was signed into law by the President
on June 8, 1974. The Act authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to cause
such medals to be struck and to be sold to the general public, under such
rules and regulations as he may provide, at a price not less than the
estimated cost of manufacture material.
RECOMMENDATION:
That this memorandum be referred to the Administrative
and the Intelligence Divisions and to Mr. Ponder, President of the FBIRA,
for appropriate handling.
