which have sprung up in the hysteria of wartine "patriotien.” In cases in
which these anti-foreigners accused those born abroad of being partisans of
Fasciem, an accusation unjust from every point of view, Mr. Hoover sent
investigators to get at the root of the rumor and to bring ites spreaders te

those who broke the law were enenios of Mr. Hoover and he was the nest

it might believe itself te be, capable of fecling the perspicacieuaness and
the keen sight of thia man who, like the aythologieg]l Argus, has eyes te
eee everything.
But besides being a wise policeman with insxhaustible resources,
Hoover is a man of wide culture and of well-defined ideas who studied the
principles of Washingten and Lincoln, soquiring a profound faith in his esuntry
and in democracy, and he believes in the people, in their hopes and in their
ambitions. He understands the problems of the people because he is a nan of
the people. His embition is to contribute to the formation of a healthy
working nation and to those who are sincere, bs extends his friendly neiping
