“WASHINGTON, July 26.~--(UP).--Director John Edger Hoover of the
Federal Bureau of Investipation today began his 3lst year with the
justice department with a forecast that the days ahead would be -usier
than those of the recent war and the gangster era of the 30's.

Hoover told the United Press that the work-load on these

the rise in crime trends", he said, "the FEI, by legislation and other
means, has been given new responsibilities since the end of World War II+
