WAR DEPARTMENT
WASHINGTON .
April 7, 1942.
My dear Mr. Hoover:
In accordance with your request, I am
vending to you a letter in reapect to your Reserve
‘commission similar to that which has been addressed
to all of your associates in the FBI.
I did not, however, want this occasion
to pass without adding this personal word to assure
you how deeply I recognise the importance of the work
which you have performed and are performing for our
governnent and the high respect and regard I have
: always felt for you. The fact that you wish no
distinction made between you and your associates only
-mbhances the esteem which I feel for you.
Very sincerely yours,
Secretary of War.
Mr. J. Edgar Hoover,
