BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF JOHN EDGAR HOOVER,
DIRECTOR, FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION,
UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT GF JUSTHGE.
John Edgar Hoover was born January 1, 1895, in the District of 3
Columbia, and was educated in the Public Schoois of the District of 2
Columbia, graduating from Central High School in 1915. During the same
year, 1913, Mr. Hoover entered the Library of Congress ae a Clerk, and '
enrolled in George Washington Law School as an evening student. He holds '
the Degrees of LL. B., and LL. M., and also the honorary degree of Doctor ©
of Laws from the George Washington University,A He has been admitted to
practice law before the bar of the Supreme Court of the District of Columbia,
the United States Court of Claims, and the United Statee Supreme Court.
He ig a trustee of the George Washington University.
Mr. Hoover entered the Department of Justice in 1917 as a Clerk
aod in 1915 was appointed Special Assistant to the Attorney General. Fron
4921 until 1924, he served as Assistant Director of the Bureau of Investiga-
tion, and in May, 1924, he was named Director.
Wr. Hoover holds the commigsion of Lieutenant-Colonel in the
Military Intelligence Division of the Officers Reserve Corps, United States
Army. He is a wember of the Columbia Country Club, Chevy Chase, Waryland;
the Metropolitan and University Clube, Washington, BD. C.: the Masonic
Fraternity; the Kappa Alpha Fraternity; an honorary member of the Omicron
Delta Kappa Fraternity; a life member of the International Association of
Chiefs of Police; a life member of the International Association for
Identification; an honorary member of the New England Association of Chiefs
of Police; an honorary life member of the Bheriffs' Asaociation of Texas;
Vice-Chairman of the Advieory Board of the International World Folice
Association: an honorary member of the Judges and Police Executives Confer~
