prior to your coming to Los Angeles, as is indicated in a memorandum
that I furnished to you on your arrival in the city, had wanted you
to attend a meeting of the Alumni Association of the University of
Southern California in los Angeles on September 14th. Inasmuch as
MR. HOTTEL, in a telephone conversation with me on the morning of
the 2lst, indicated that your party was perhaps going to La Jolla
on the 21st, and in accordance with the conversation that I] had with
MR. TOLSON on the 21st prior to your departure for La Jolla, I tele-

this invitation and that while you apprecisted the invitation, you
had to leave the city quite unexpectedly, for which reason you were
unable to accept the invitation.
On September 21st, after speaking to MR. TOLSON about your
inability to accept the luncheon engagement with the Kappa Alpha
Fraternity extended to you through Sheriff BISCAILUZ, I communicated
with the latter and being unable to reach him, left word at his of-
fice that you left the city quite unexpectedly and that you regretted
that you were unable to accept the invitation,
