Mr. Hoover atated he asked that he, Winchell, put in something about the Hamilton-Karpis;Robinson matter, which he did. Mr. Hoover stated he was trying to re-gain some of the publicity which we have lost during the past week. Mr. Hoover stated the paper was already printed and on the street with this story in it, and Winchell picked it off the second page. Mr. Tamm advised Mr. Hoover further that Mr. Carusi called him this morning and referred to Shearer's statement, and wanted to know whether we had any lists of Communists in our files, and was told we did not. Mr. Carusi announced he was the high Department of Justice official who made the statement. Mr. Hoover instructed that word be given to Whitley, if anything breeks on this,. to advise Mr. Hoover at the Hotel New Yorker.
