went into great detail indicating the fact that the negroes in Detroit -- = --—:
are gaining a dominant hand and that it was their intention to eventually obtain
control of the city. This control is already evident in the school system and
the motor transportation system. The writer of the letter stated that a white
person attending one of the local schools was recently killed by a colored per-
son and the matter was hushed up and no action was ever taken. Colored bus
drivers are alleged to be passing up white people.

ts C~| urs. WRG tated that in ner opinion the letter above mentioned was
undoubtedly axispropaganda, I inquired of Mrs MBprhether she had seen the
letter and she replied in the negative. She also stated that she would be un
able to obtain a copy of it inasmuch as she had already requested the woman wh
had read her the contents to make a copy available and was refused. urs >
was specifically asked whether DOr whom she claimed to know very well, and
this third person, whose identity she refused to furnish, were the type to be *
considered involved in unamerican activities and she stated that in her opinion
they were both very loyal Americans and would do nothing which would at all re-
flect on the country. She added she was merely reporting the matter so that the
identity of the school teacher in Detroit might be determined so that it could be
ascertained whether she might be subversive in her actions.
bIZ= | I told Urs. that the information she furnished would be given ap-
propriate attention it was my opinion that no violation of any statute over
which this Bureau had jurisdiction had occurred, particularly in view of the
that there was no indication that the writer of the letter had més asked Dri
to circularize the letter but intended to merely vgice her opinion of existing
conditions in Detroit in a personal letter to Dr. For your information, J
Mrs s & member of the Speakers Guild in the District and alse a

am would jump to conclusions if given the opportunity. It is believed no action
should be taken in this matter and the facts are being reported so that the cali
may be made a mtter of record. *ECORDEL GG-.3122 PO
