However, the operator heard her mention the name * J. Edgar Hoover ", con- cerning whom she made several disparaging remarks. During this entire time most of her conversation was unintelligible. Because ~ she had mentioned the Director's name, Mr. Hyland, the Night Super- visor was contacted and advised of the nature of the call. Ee requested to speak with the woman and was connected with her. At this point sm record of the convarazation was startad. The Bureau operator then contacted the Chief Operator of the Telephone Company, identified himself to her, and requested that the call be traced. The Chief Operator reported | back that the call had been traced to the Georgia Exchange office at which time the connection had been lost by the woman suddenly hanging up. The Chief Operator checked with the Georgia Exchange office ad found that shortly after 12:00 midnight someone had dialed the operator and asked for the F.8.I. The call came from a pay station and because it did the operator handling the call did not ask for the person's number. The Chief Operator indicated there was no further way to trace the call.
