Re: IMTSRIATIONAL CRIMINAL POLICE Cont SION
VWaATEn NOTICES eee
Director, FI , ,
Dear Sir: _ )
The/substance of Pureau letter dated June 15, 1949, has been
discussed wifh the I,C.P.C., and the Bureau's policy resarding the
placinr oo anted Notices with the Identification Vivision has been
exniained. 1
The Commission points out that the fincerprints they receive
from the various member countries, in many cases, are not properly
taken, and often leave much to be desired. They are making every
effort to have the contributors submit clearer and better finrerprints.
However, in the meantime they are, of course, unable to reproduce on
their circulars any better prints than they receive. In most cases
they receive only one copy of these fingerprints and it is, therefore,
not possible to furnish the cureau an orifinal copy or a photozraphic
reproduction. Incidentally, comgariseon made personally by the writer
between the originals and the copies reproduced on the circulars, shows
very little difference.
ow
teparding the specific request by letter for each placing of
a ‘‘anted hotice, the Commission rerrets that their limited personnel
at the present tine makes it impossible to comply with this recuirement.
With respect to the prompt notification of the yithdrawal of
“anted ietices, the Bureau's attention is called to regular cancellation
notices which arg sent out periodically alonr with the Janted J-otices,
as woll as the cancellation notices which. appear on the last pare of
each issue of the International’ Griminal Police 2leview.
~ Jc:
‘the I.C.?.C. desires that only hiknsy irculars bearing the
red tab, that is cases in which judicda} nrocets! is outstandins, should
be placed as a ‘‘anted Notice in thd “ype des; Identification “iles. Since
these are comparatively few, \hleryyz, tte firead advises to.{he contrary,
this offiew will henceforth recuest;' Bh hehialf of the I.C.P.C. by ictter,
that santed iotices be placad. I shall di Wwise advise the “ureau by
letter when the ‘!otice should be withdrawn. +4 ~
