Quinn tesa_ ee It will be recalled that for gome time tnO International Crimi 2 Police Commission of which the Bureau is a member, has advocated that Wit ‘member aeenéies use the cable addrecs "INTERPOL", followed by the Be locality. The Burenu has to date taken no action in this regard and theo registered cable address is "USINVEST" which addresa was apparently registered ei with the cable companies during the early days of the Bureau's development. “ FACTS? The Legal Attache in Paris has advised that the International Criminal Police Commission headquarters has requested him to inquire of the Bureau regarding the possibility of the Bureau's registering the code word WINTERPOL" as its cable address for the sake of economy and efficiency, “. , Tt ds not believed that the adoption of the cable address "INTERPOL ' WASHINGTON? would effect great economies on the part of the ICPO headquarters or member agencies which might communicate with the Bureau by cablegran. it 4s believed, however, that the adoption of that cable address would work for efficiency and uniformity within the IOPC sétup. The majority of the member agencies have adopted this system, and due to its widespread use, 1t is believed Mm thet the Bureau, as an indication of its desire to work together with other members | of the organization, might do well to register the code namo "INTERPOL" as its inf cablegram address, in addition to the address USINVEST which it has maintained for so long a time.. Mr. L. R. McCoy of the Communications Section has advised that the repistrztion of a new cable address can be made by advising Western Union of. | the addreas. Western Union will in turn advise the other cable companies. The fee for registration is $2.50 a year and it ia believed that this amount is a reasonable sum to pay in order to cooperate with the ICPC in obtaining uniformity anong the member agencies and to avold the confusion which might occur when other menber agencies which were not aware of the Bureau's USINVEST address endeavorl™ to contact the Bureau by cablegram. REC Or SEDATION: It is recommended that in order to promote the Buresa's interests in the International Police Commission, the cable address "INTERPOL be registered with the Western Union company. A this recommendation is COTE, £ E 200! at ma v ! i, 4 ~~ * -tgd . —_ YwooN .
