COMMISSION INT. .NATIONALE Poris, ie Bi Qi] ‘DE POLICE CRIM.WELLE g SECRETARIAT GENERAL it, Rue des Sousscies — PARIS [(B*} Tél. : ANJOU 89.34 6 89-38 “{.0.P.c. no WT se FANSLATION . ferseses Dear hr. HOOVER, ‘ORIGINAL In order to make the classifying of international ‘ criminals easier, I intend to have the General Secretariat equipped with a mechanographic Service, making use of the machines made by the WATSON firm, (electric sorting-machines for perforated cards). * This system is, so far as I know, being used by the Federal Bureau, and J venture to call on you to obtain your advice and sone information about it. Ishould be grateful if you would be good enough to tell me, in a few words, for what purpose the said method is being used and, in particular, if it is made use of for the classification of finger prints. I a@wuld also like to &b informed of the method used. Would you kindly let me know if, in your ofinion, it is worth while using such a method when the number of fingerprint cards is not actually very high; to my mind, - in-the case-of the International Office, the usual finger- - print classification, (the Galton-Henry method, for instance would be quite sufficient. Finally, I aw also to ask if you would kindly send me some ccpies of the cards you use, together with the codes you are making use of. It would, as a tatter of fact, be perhaps possible for us, in some tases, to adopt the very same type of cards, and a same classification, /. (nationality - descriptio., - modus operandi - occupation).’- With Very many thankgsbelieve we, dear Mr. HOOVER, ours very sincerely. whe Pa ae y 8 v ely ee Sh ae he ad om pe sf ee e Secretary Gefieral 3: ° ~, “4 gr SP Be Hdd ora 6% ‘rs de Edgar HOOVER ack, af 5/47 Te ; 41 f, .
