The Southern Regional Council (SRC) of Atlanta, Georgia,
| Bas published a Special Report, “Albany,'' by. Howard Zinn dealing
with the racial unrest in Albany, Georgia, during November and
December, 1961,
The Bureau has conducted no investigation concerning the
Howard Zinn is a professor of History and Social Science
at Spelman Collége;—Atianta, Georgia, a Negro college, Hé has ~
been the subject of a security investigation by this Bureau a
(100~360217) and was reportedly a member of the Communist Party
(CP) from 1948 to 1951,

The report is a slanted and biased document which could
be expected from a person of Zinn's background,. It does not add
anything to the clarification of the racial problem in the South,
In one place in the report it is set forth that
circumstances concerning the ordering of Negroes from a white a
waiting room of a bus station in Albany on 11/1/61 were reported :
to the FBI and “there was no apparent result."" Bureau files
indicate that the facts concerning this incident were promptly
furnished to the Department and no investigation was requested,
In another place in the report it is indicated that
‘FBI men were reported cruising the streets in cars" during the |
arrests of various persons in Albany, Georgia, on 12/16/61.
Several Agents of this Bureau were in fact in Albany, along with
SAC Charles Es Weeks to afford complete coverage of the situation.
The Department was kept fully advised of.all information.
The Departmeut of Justice is criticized in the report
for not taking appropriate action in Albany, Georgia, ©
