AT 100-301 estimated that sbout 40% of the persons present were white and the/ — remainder were Negroes. On the platform with Ur. WALLACE were CL, FOREMAN, president of the SOHW, EOHONIA GRART, administrator of the Negro lawyer, co~chairman of the meeting, AUBREY WILLIAMS, editor - of the "Southern Farmers" from Alabama, Dr. BENJAMIN J. MAYS, presi- dent of Morehouse College (Negro), Dr, FORRESTER WASHINGTON, head of the Atlanta School of Social Service (Negro), and NATHAN KATZ. The latter 4s active in the Ruthenberg Branch of the Communist Party in Atlante and is a Security Index subject. Talks were made by A. T. WALDEN, EDMONIA GRANT, AUDREY WILLIAMS, and CLARK FOREMAN. AUBREY WILLIAMS latided the SCHW and stressed the need for funds by the organization in order that it might carry on its work. He asked for pledges or contributions and there followed a . period where persons present were given an opportunity to make a pledge or donation. It was noted that Dr. ELWOOD GRANT BODDIE, Negro dentist, and Security Index subject, was one of two persons pledging $100.00 to Mr. WALLACE spoke for about an hour and a half, during which time he attacked the present foreign polley of the United States and . universal military training as being policies which would lead us to war. He aleo gaid that America has nothing to fear from Communism but does - face a danger from those who would violate the Bill of Rights in seeking out Communists and those who brand every liberal movement as Commmunist- inspired. He criticised Congressional investigating committees and the present loyalty check program as being violations of the Bill of Rights and stated that the present administration and big business are trying to undermine traditional American rights to free debate by using the _ ory of "red® to suppress those who do not think as they believe they should. He also said that racial segregation and racial discrimination must be eliminated. - 4 It had previously bean reported that, as set out in my letter of Hoyesber 19 and ay teletype of November 20, there might be serious disorders during the WALLACE meeting. However, there were no disturbances and the mecting was orderly. According: to Informant| __jon November 21, 1947, BDIMONIA GRANT told DONALD L.WEST that ticket sales for the mecting had brought in around $2,000 and that the collections made during the mesting raleed @ little over $1,000. Informant added that WEST had asked EDMONIA GRANT about the possibility of obtaining the services of BRANSON PRICE, SCHW b7D -2-
