Letter to Director NY 100=26648 oF 4 oo. a? .... recalled that HANS ETSLER hed confided to him that CHARLSS’CHAPLIN was very friendly with him and had been at his home on a number of occasions. In addition EISLER indicated that CHAPLIN was aware of his plight insofar as gettin out of the United States and subsequently EISLER <a that CHAPLIN had given, or was to give, him financial assistance. He could not recall at the present time whether it was past or present,or whether the financial assistance was or had been in connection with the liquidation of taxes for EISLER,or toward the cost of his transportation, or bothe Upon reflection stated that CHAPLIN evident@§ly did not furnish any financial assistance toward the cost of transportation for EISLER because BERYL WERNER, who had invested in the Rod Geiger Productions and had been associated with ROD GEIGER in that organization, had arranged for the payment of the cost of air transportation out of the country for EISLER. SEED commento that apparently CHAPLIN had not b ya Turnished any financial assistance to EISLER in the early stages of his attempts in this regard recalled in retrospect that he mself had been surprised that CHAPLIN had not furnished such assistance especially since EISLER had indicated that they were on friendly terms.
