including Hans Eisler, has been very close to Mr. and Mrs, William Dieterle
end Charlie Chaplin, who have been promineatly associated with the Communist
Party.

Eisler is the composer
of music set to the picture “"Komomol” (Song of Heroes) produced in Moscow in
1932. The scenario for this picture is credited to Joris Ivens, who is known to
be a close personal friend of Eisler. This picture is described as the film of
the Soviet League of Youth, which reveals a completely new sociological outlock.
The informant states that the aame *“*Komsomo!"* is that of the Young Communist
League in Russia and that the transletion of the title by the authors eas ‘Son: of
Heroes" is entirely inaccurate. Eisler also collaborated with Joris Ivens in
1935 and 1935 in making the pictures *‘New Eerth’’ and ‘Four Hundred Millicgs."*
Also, according to this informant, the subject met with Joris Ivens on tie
evening of May 8, 1943, in Los Angeles. A surveillance by Bureeu agents
identified nine other individuals who met with Ivens and Eisler at the home of
Oscar Homoilka in Bel Air, California. Three of the individuals at this meeting
are known Communist Party members. 0 (ibid)
On September 15, 1943, a technical surveillance was established at
the hame of Hans Eisler, 1650 Amalie Drive, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monics,
California, This technical source was discontinued on February 10, 1944, due
to non-productivity. However, during the time that this installation was in
effect it was noted that Hans Eisler was in direct contact with his brother,
Gerhart Eisler, and waa further in close association with known Communist
Party members in the California area, as well as with members of the Soviet
Consulate. Ht was further developed that isler was in close teuch with Bertolt
Brecht, Lion Feechtwaager and other individuals active ia Commanist affairs,

On September 27, 1943, Assistant U.S. Attorney John KM. Gault, having
considered the facts in the Hans Eisier case, advised that no request would be
made for e Presidentiel Warrant for the subject's arrest as a denperou: alien
enemy at that time. Mr. Gault referred to the collaboration between the subject
and Bertok Brecht and the similar aature of the fects in their indivilu'l ceses.
