HANNS EISLER, wiic was scheduled to appear before the House Committee on Un.
Americen Activities in Los Angeles, was for years one of the leaders of the
Communist Party's National Cultural Commission. This ‘information, according '
to the article, was learnad fron a former Communist who had attended many
meetings of the "Cultural Commission" at the Communist Party National Head.

of the Reds' Cultural Commission, HANNS would outline plans to be followed in
Hollywood to recruit movie stars, to place Communist propaganda in screen scripts,
am in general was the commissar of the West Coast Party activities on the movie
front".
The "New York Daily Worker™ for May 11, 1947 carried a photograph
ef HANNS EISLER and referred to the fact that he had been ordered to appear before

and admire my brother —- -- I think the campaign against him is the beginning of

seen such campaigns before, in Germany before 1933. I know that when my brother
came to the United States, he came as an agent for nobody. He came as a sick man
from a concentration camp. I know he wanted to go to Mexico and was held here
against his wishes — —- It would perhaps be better to ask the anti~Nazi umer-

' better information about his activities". It was then stated that HANNS EISLER
had been served with two subpoense, one for his appearance before the Un-American
