HANNS in approximately 1935 and the former was introduced to him as the brother
of HANNS, At the time, he said he knew that EISLER wae regarded as a "C.1. Rep."
and was known as EDWARDS but that in all of his contacts with him, which were
, Purely social in nature, nothing was ever said to this effect.
GERHART EISIER
wis GERHART EISLER was interviewed on July 19, 1946 by Special Agent
the reporting agent, but during the course of this inter-
w su little information pertaining to the subject of instant
investigation.
GEREART did advise that he himself had been born in Leipzig,
Germany on February 20, 1897. He supplied his father as RUDOLPHTCISLER, ane. /
Austrian Jew who was a Professor of Philosophy. His mother JDA'was of Gerpan’ —_-!—
descent. He reported that he had one brother, HANNS EISLER, and a sister, RUTH
FISCHER, both of whom were presently in the United States. When advising as to
his own sources of income, GERHART claimed that in 1942 he and his wife were
supported by his brother HANNS and by friends.
Since the advent of GERHART EISLER into the newspapers, consider-
able information has been supplied relative to hie activities and thogmof the
subject of instant investigation in the daily newspapers. The majority of this
information has already been supplied to the Bureau. However, therafs being set forth
herewith certain pertinent parts cf articles which appeared in the New York news-
papers relative to HANNS EISIZR aniwhich did not appear to be fram a press service.
In an article dated October 15, 1946 in the "New York World
Telegram", it was stated that GERHART EISLER was the brother of HANNS "noted
exiled German composer who writes mesic for the movies in Hollywood. In 1940
the composer received a $20,000 experimental grant from the Rockefeller Foundation
to score sound tracks in his own style of misic. One of them was the DONALD DUCK
shorée“fHis Better Self'. ir. EISIER's latest screen grant was for the CARY GhANT—
ETHEL BARRYMORE filmeANone But the-Lonely Heart'", according to the article, this
information emanated from RUTH FISCHER,
