furnished the following information. He stated that it had been ascertained
that HANNS EISLER had made application for an exit visa on dune 19, 1947,
stating that he desired to sail for Paris, France, on July 24 or as soon as
possiblee According to Mr. QF H1SLER indicated he would work for a
motion picture firm in Paris. It was further indicated by Mr. tha
the State Department would deny the application for exit visa. re ar
also said that BRUNHILDEYEISLER, wife of GERHART EISLER, had informed him 4
that HANS EISLER had a’bne year contract with a motion picture firm and 67<
that she had talked with HANNS EISLER on the telephone on Priday, July 4,
1947, at which time HANYS EISLER was at his home in Los Angeles, which -
address was given by Mir. QM as 23688 Malibu Beach, Pacific Palisades,
Californias
vr. QP stated that a subpoena had been issued by the House
Committee on Un-American Activities for the appearance of HANNS EISLER on
September 23, 1947, at Washington, De C., but that the U. S. Marshal at
Los Anceles had advised he had been unable to locate HANNS EISLER and had
received information indicating he had gone to either Florida or Mexico.
Mre stated that on July lL, 1947, Mr. J. PARNELL THOUAS received
a telegram addressed to him at the House of Representatives, Washington, &
D. Ce, from HANNS EISLER, in which telegram HANNS EISLER indicated he had
received information through newspaper sources that he was again being
sought to testify before the House Committee and that he would be ready
and available to testify on September 23, The telegram was a lengthy one
in which EISLER indicated he had made some background investigation con=
cerning THOMAS which he said would be interesting. According to Mr.
the following code information was contained at the tep of the
egram by which the telegram from HANNS EISLER to PARNELL THQ‘AS could be
identified:

Mre stated that Congressman THOMAS or anyone acting for 67¢
the Committee had not had any additional contact with the U. S. Marshal
at Los Angeles since receipt of the above-noted telegrame
