Ye sungort the NYLF's call for an enalysis of this situation
from our cantured comrades in prison and for an explanation of
why he was executed from the people who aid ite If this action
con't be further explained we have no choice but to conclude
that his execution was either carried out by counter-intelli-~
gence agents or by horribly misguided “revolutionaries”.
TO COMRADES IN THE ABCVEGRCUND MOVEMENT:
The Left must constantly be eware of the lengths to which
the pigs will go in order to sabotage the revolutionary movement.
Cperation Phoenix in Viet Nam and the recent revelations of
CCINTSLPRO operations in the U.S. are perfect illustrations of
this. Ne clearly understand what it means to have our lezders
killed by tne enemy. This is the way the pigs have always
opereted: George Jackson, Malcolm X,° Fred Harnoton, Sam Melville
and our six comrades, just to name a fev.
The UPU clearly had this in mind when they maas their rirst
comments concerning Popeye's death. But when the communicue
arrived which claimed restousibdility for tne execution, UPU
seamed. to ignore the'vast practice of the pigs and Torget the past
practice of tre NWLF. The New World Liberation Front has demon-
strated a high degree of tactical sophistication and political
understanding in all-their actions. The superficial auality of
this first communique should not have led the UPU to conelude
absolutely that the NWLF executed Popeye. Only days before the
execution was carried out, at least 100 counter-intelligence
agents under the pseudonym of "U.S. Treasury Agents" were sent
from Washington D.C. to the San Francisco Bay. Area. Their
directive was to destroy and discredit guerrilla forces in the
Pay Area, anecificaily the NWLF. Since the arrival of these
agents, Popeye Jackson was murdered under suspicious circum-
stances and a poverful anti-personnel bombo was discovered at
a nigh school graduation 1n San Jose.
“Ye cannot discount the possibility tnat these acts were
carried out by the enemy to destroy the prison movement and
discredit muerritlla forces. Revolutionaries must be committed
to maintaining objectivity in analyzing guerrilla actions.
They must recognize the nast practice of both the guerrilla
forces and the .ig agencles and be vigilant about aiscerning
the differences between the two. Cnly through mutual suvpo0rt/
criticism will revolutionaries on the different fronts be able
to miintain the unity necessary for our movement's survival
and its ultimate victory.
