FBI Dis- aster Squad, a group of fingerprint experts spe- cially trained to handle identificaticg problems following catastrophes, responded to requests for identification assistance in connection with five airplane crashes during Fiscal 1975 and posi- tively identified S2 of the 282 victims examined in these disusters. Also. continuing was the FBI's Missing Per- sons Program, whereby information regarding the whereabouts of missing persons is furnished to cluse relatives, members of Congress, and public avencies acting in behalf of the families. There were 5,045 active missing person notices in file aus the fiscal year ended, Some 41,997 latent fingerprint ideutificatie cases were received during Fiscal 1975, . Latent fingerprint exuminers made 675 local, state, and Federal court appearances in these causes. Some 475,581 items were examined in processing these cases, and 5,733 suspects were identified through lutent fingerprints, Court proceedings related to these causes resulted in a total of 3,733 vears in prison terms, as well as 55 life terms, £1 death sentences, and fines totaling $35,800. Wanted notices posted in tile numbered 128,715, and 32,019 fugitives were identified akuinst these wanted notices during Fiseal 1975.
