Attached advises that Judge Oliver Carter allowed
into evidence an American Psychiatric Association
' letter advising that Doctor Fort (prosecution witness)
"was being dropped from the records for his nonpayment

Catherine Hearst (mother of defendant) testified, “2
that her daughter Patricia was “warm and loving," % ~
shared “close family life," and had a "mutual Se
enthusiasm for art." She categorized Patricia as es
"a very bright girl" who is “strong-willed." She
testified that Fort stated that the difficulty in |
arranging a plea is that "Bailey (defense attorney)
likes to try cases and Browning (U.S. Attorney) wants
to be a Federal judge." — . £ & _
On cross-examination, Mrs. Hearst denied that she
had said in mid December that Browning wants to be a
Federal judge. Evidence was closed. “Judge Carter
advised arguments would be heard 3/18/76}, instructions
would be given to the jury, and that the case would
be submitted for deliberation 3/19/76.
