Cléveland RE: LETTER FROM CLEVELAND, OHIO 12/30/74 | A letter, postmarked Cleveland, Ohio, and ©; nec "SLA" was received on January 2, 1975, by the ‘San Francisce Examiner” and indicated Mr. HEARST was to be at a bank of telephones in the ground level of the Hopkins Airport, Cleveland, Ohio, no later than 8:00 PM, January 4, 1975, . with $250,000.00 in small bills. The letter indicated that the writer had custody of PATRICIA HEARST and would turn her over to her father for the money. Bureau Agent, posing as Mr. HEARST's representative, received cell at above bank of telephones at 8:03 PM on | January 4, 1975. Bureau Agent was directed to various pay station telephones in the vicinity of Hopxins Airport from 8:03 PM until 1:40 AM, January 5, 1975. Bureau Agent received © eight (8) telephone calls from the unknown subject during this situation. The package was left at the site indicated by the unknown subject and kept under physical surveillance without any individual picking up or coming in close proximity to the package. > All pertinent telephones had been trapped. No trace was effected. Unknown subject furnished no information during calls that he had information regarding the whereabouts of PATRICIA HEARST. Unknown subject did not furnish any identifiers whatsoever in the HEARNAP case. a _ Cleveland conducting investigation in this matter under separete extortion case. : . | #
