The $. L. A. has kidnapped the daughter of Randciph Hearst and is holding her until certain demands are me‘, whick at this date incluce distibu- tion of food to poct pecpie in the San Francisco area. This dramatic act of the S. L. A. has broug ht to the surface the pilgrt of poor and oppressed people throughout the United Staces, Jt is interesting to note that the Hearsts came to North America from Scot- Jand tn 1669, one of the original familles that stole indian lands in North Carolina and later ir Missourl. Expropriation pf Indian lead and silver mines in Missourl gave the Hearsts power to “acquire” Indlan lands in the Southvest end to participate in the Mexican ~ American war of con- quest. The Hearst empire expanded to California during the 1800s with the annexing of huge land reserves. Yearst’s mining oanterprises were . rampant in the Black Hills of Dakota, precipitating and supporting the military acgression against the Octala Sicux Nation. Hearst's mining , interests in the U.S. and South America have contributed greatly to the fmperiaiistic behavior of the United States. The Hearst family used their vast control of the press and media to preci- pitate the Spanish - American war for tne “Liberation ci Cuba". In the - early 1900s it was the Hearst publications thet fomented pro-fascist mover ments in the United Suites, and later it was this seme organization th.£ ” supported Hitler and his Nazi party. ¥, ] The Hearst organization was instrumenta! in inciiing the Western populs- thon to incarcelrate Tapanest - Americans in concentration camps during 7 4 : World War lI.
