Notes Developed as a mititary cartridge by
d introthuced in 1892, it was adapted by the
overnment and chambered in a limited quan-
tity of Mivdel 62 Mauser belt action rides which were
a modifigption of the Belgian patlern 89. In 1893 Spain
adopted § new model Mauser in this same caliber. This
rifle has been catled the Spanish Mauser ever since.
although it was also adopted by Mexico and a number
of South American countries. Remington chambered
their rolling bleck and Lee rifles for the 7mm about
1897 and jater the Moctel 30. The Winchester Modell
54 and 70 also chambered it. No American company
makes rifles for it at the: present time. but most of the
Eurepean and British companies offer it as standard.
General Comments Although originally a military car-
tridge. the 7x57imm Mauser has proven itself as one of
