REQUEST FOR MATERIAL FOR
FEATURE ARTICLE ONSHEARNAP CASE
/ =
In response to Colt’s request earlier this month, we have been fi
cooperating with him in furnishing public source type material regarding the
—_
Hearnap case. In addition, he was furnished in Heim to McDermott memo- ag
randum of 9/24/74, captioned as above, a statement that could be directly
attributed to Mr. Kelley, which deals with the fugitive status of Patty Hearst by
and William end Emily Harris. Colt has been most grateful for this material
and feels that the "Enquirer" will be able to do an excellent in-depth feature '
story on these badly wanted fugitives. >
MN
~ On 9/30/74 Colt, who has returned to his home office in Florida,
‘advised the "Enquirer" staff has been writing the story based on the material =~
he has obtained while visiting at FBI Headquarters. Included in this material ~
is data which he has obtained from briefings with FBI supervisory personnel. wm
He stated quite possibly, based on this other material, the "Enquirer" staff wail
like to attribute one or two more statements to Mr. Kelley as the article is 1
being prepared to go to press for next week's edition. Consequently, Colt <3
‘stated he would make a telephonic contact with Mr. Kelley's office directly &
for the purpose of getting this last minute quote and, quite possibly, it would &
be on October 2nd or 3rd of this week. Colt stated he felt this request would
not last more than a 2 or 3 minute telephone conversation with Mr. Kelley.
