This memorandum sets forth current status of
recent investigation being coordinated by Los Angeles and
San Francisco Offices in this case.
GRAND JURY MATTERS:
- U. S. Attorney’ (USA) Robert L. Brosio, Los Angeles,
advised 8/2/74 U. S. Supreme Court Associate Justice
William 0. Douglas granted a stay for an indefinite period
to William Lewis, manager of KPFK Radio Station. Lewis is
the individual who refuses to turn over a Symbionese
Liberation, Army (SLA) tape, container, and letter he obtained
in June, 1974. According to USA Brosio, it is anticipated
that the Solicitor General will attempt to have Justice
Douglas rescind the stay. Los Angeles continues to
<
follow this matter closely. 7 ~

In San Francisco, Retimah X, Jamellia Muntaz, and f,
Roland Tate, all of whom are suspected of harboring SLA
fugitives, appeared before a Federal Grand Jury on 8/1/74;
however, they were excused.since they were not represented
by.an attorney. Each individual was ordered to return at
a future date which will be determined by the USA's Office.
FALSE IDENTITIES:
- A review of all new drivers' permits issued by
the California Department of Motor Vehicles (CDMV) since the
SLA shootout has been conducted by searching all known aliases
of SLA fugitives, viewing photographs, and comparing affixed
thumb prints when necessary. .This has met with negative results.
