John Clements, Hearst Washington representative, calle ; this morning to advise that a Hearst representative in New York has heard rumors to the effect. that Shana Alexander of the "Washington Post", who has been commissioned by the Viking Press to do a book on the Hearst case, has a contact in the Symbionese Liberation Army in the person of Nancy Ling Perry. The Hearst people feel the possibility exists that Alexander could possibly be in contact with Perry at the present time, however, have no information to substantiate this. It is noted that Maxine Cheshire column in the “Washington Post” edition Of April 2ist (copy attached) reported that Alexander had @ contract to write such a book.
