Attached is a copy of the “Congressional Record"
for Monday, 4/22/74, which contains remarks by Congressman
Sikes.
By previous Walsh to Mr. Jenkins memorandum captioned
"Inguiry of Congressman Robert L. F. Sikes Concerning ¢
Hearst Kidnaping Case" dated 3-27-74, it was set forth that AX
with the Director's approval the Congressman was furnished
a confidential briefing regarding this case. »
Also by previous memorandum Franck to Mr. Jenkins
dated 4/5/74 captioned “Hearnap: Comments of Robert L. F.
Sikes (D - Flia.)" you were apprised of a telephone call from
the Congressman which was handled by Inspector Bowers. \
Copies of above referred to memoranda are also attached. .
In the attached article the Congressman states Lo
that the FBI has a responsibility to the public to take ds
action to foil crime and to apprehend criminals. He also &
indicates that there is evidence the group the FBI is
seeking in the Hearst case is small and the FBI has leads which x
long ago should have been productive. His brief remarks are KS
concluded by his statement that undoubtedly the FBI will produce
results in the Hearst case but action appears to be overdue a
and the question is when will there be results. =
It is obvious that the Congressman is impatient ra
with our lack of a solution in the Hearst case. Obviously, hs
he will not be satisfied, nor will this Bureau, until this mT
case is culminated. Although we are as concerned as the 3
Congressman regarding a prompt solution, we cannot now Cy
‘\predict or anticipate when the matter will be finally resolved. re
