ae “= Memorandum to Mr. Gebhardt Re: HEARNAP ik of identification with the aggressor. Dr. Miron said that “Patricia Hearst would be a perfect subject to kidnap oO ihasmuch.as. she is_so. -suggestible. .He likened. her to some roe 3 of the people in concentration camps in World War II who adopted the ideas of their aggressors and, in fact, became more aggressive. Dr. Miron felt that when Patricia was released she would have adopted the SLA idea and be very [assires, She should get psychiatric treatment as he felt §' she would tell her story to a doctor and@ maybe ultimately to the FBI but not for a considerable period of time. | He felt Cinque is in a way play-acting. He expects leo fail, is not capable of decision. He is the true criminal’ type, that talk was all important. He said Cinque is the Only one who uses the first person and is the only one who ‘Speaks contemporaneously. In his outcome. predictions, Dr. Miron states that - “none of what the SLA does is meaningful without talk and incapacity. for action must be compensated by talk and talk of plans. He predicted there would be more communication. He felt the critical problem in dealing with the SLA is their determination to commit suicide by establishing the . condition in which their destruction at the hands of someone else is inevitable. The communications increasingly establish these conditions. He did not feel that Cingue would kill in cold blood and the group as a whole is not capable of their own suicides unless engineered as a dramatic culmination of their indecisive lives as the consequence of the acts of " others which they can rationalize.as outside their responsibility. | Dr. Miron recommended that Hearst as the father ' must appeal to his daughter of contriteness for past lack of ', affection and parental disapproval in order to alter the dangerous course of action Patricia is embarking on and this should have additional positive implications for the. psychic condition of the SLA as well. He felt an attempt must be made to assert influence over Patricia's suggestibility and bring her back to identification with the outside world rather than the distorted reality of the SLA, She must be wrested from the patient status she has placed herself in with respect to the SLA. Dr. Miron in discussing his analysis stated that experience would win out over the computer, that the computer is a means of stimulating the experience of the investigator CONTINUED ~ OVER.
