SL To29 On Osetbober 10, 1955, subjest CARL AUSTIN HALL was interviewed by WILLIAM G. SIMON, ASAC, at the St. Louis City dail. HALL -advised that he -was etaying at the Town House Hotel in St. Leatsa, Missourl, at the time of-his arrest. The room, whith he occupied, wat a living room with pull-out beds and a kitchenette and a large closet at the left of the hall entrance. Thig sloset he described az a -walkein clovet-with a dresser in it. HALL stated that it was in this closet that he had placed the two metal suite tases which contained the ranzom money. He stati thet he recalls it was shortly before 8:C0 pome, because he was expecting JOHN'MAGER to bring his girl friend up ~ to HALL es apartment at 8800 pom. HALT aatdNne had not met this girl frien, but thet JOHN HAGER was to bring her as a date for him. He advised that there was a Pap on the door, and two men walked in and placed HALL under arrest. He said that the taller of the two did the talking, who,in all probability, was Lisutenant LOUIS SHOULPERS. HALL stated that he imsed- iately thought, "The jig was up” and that the other man held a gun on EALL and that HALLts gun was in a desk drawer loaded. HALL sontinued that the tall man atarted to look around ané went through HALL's pockets and took the keye to the suitcase from the kerchief pocket of HALL’s coat. He states that he iw not positive that they were taken from thia pocket, bat was sure that the keys were taken from one of his pockets. He con- - tinved thet, after the tall man got tre keys, he heard him go into the Sloset and thought he heard him open the suitoase, and HALL told the other mar “I think the jig is up." The tall mn walked beck into the roum ani did not way anything about seeing any money in the suitcase, HALL coutinoed that the other man said to HALL, “What do you-mean?"-and HALL said “I don't know what I meant," referring to HALL's remark, ."I think. the jig is up =” HALL continued that thé tall man then opened the brief case ant ba said, "Looks like you've got quite a bit of money here.” HALL said “Yee,” apd the tall man said, “I’m putting the brief case. back where I found it," and HALL stated that he did replace it in its former location. t- HALL gaid that, while at the CORAL COURTS, he believes that he tock about $20,000 or $30,000 and placed it in the brief case and that this was prior to the time that he took the money with the thought of burying it inthe ground. HALL advised that he asked the officers, “What's this all about,” thinking that the tall man had not seen the monsy in the. suit ease, and that the tall -man anewered, in effect, "Be quiet. When I get ready to tell you, I'll tell you,” and that he then commented that soma woman had called the Police to investigate HALL, but that he appeared very wague on thie point.
