“arch 19, 196 Jom Edgar hoover = Director, Federal sur3av of Investiss tion T thought you yould like to know that the above-captioned individual, wno is tne local prosecuting atsomey in San Francisco, has indicated an intention of calling at your office witanin tne next week or ten days with the alleged purpose of conferring with you rezarding tne caSGe According to the information in the possession of this Bureau, aa» was arrested by the San Francisco Police Department in December, 1945, on suspicion of forgerye In addition, he was later charged as a fugitive from justice as a result of a murder charye against him in Dallas Texas. He was indicted by a San Francigco County Grand Jury on January 18, 196, for forgery and grand larceny. His trial on these charges is still pending. Ga is susnected of being responsible for seven or eigat deatis since 1931 and is particularly susnected of, the poison deaths of elderly women he had married since his dischar~e from Folsom rrison, California, on Februaty 7, 1943, after sarvine a nine-year term for srand larceny and administering stupefying drugs. Tt is indicated that GRD :.2; the bodies of thess women cremated in Jackson= ville, Florida; Dallas, Texas; and Portland, Oreson, following which he considered himself heir to their estates. The San Francisco Police Derartment believes that GMD pretended tiat ais various wives were alive after he had caused tneir deaths through tne slow administration of noison ‘and when death certificates wers supseauently issued, he vould resort their jdentities under the names of previous wives.e The San Francisc9 Police Department is also nolding four warrants for Florida avthorities acainst In January; 196, Prosecutor in San Francisco, contacted tne Bureau for possible Laboratory assistance in connection with this case. With rezard to Edmund Gerald Brow, information has veen received by this Bureau that he was elected District Attorney in San Francisco County in the Fall of 193 and that during his campaign, he was actively supported by certain Communist elements. We have been confidentially asvised that he is now Vice President of the San Francisco Chapter of the National Lawyers! Guild, tne Executive doard of wnich includes seven members wno are allezed to be affiliated with the Communist Party.
