This cage involves the incident on December 4, 1969, where the above-named
gibjects are alleged to have shot and killed the above- ‘named victims, Harfipton and
Clark, while eonducting a raid on the premises located at 2337 West Monrge Street,
Toe Illinois. / At the request of the Department and with prior Bureaif a approval,
for purposes of testimony before a Federal Grand Jury convened in Chicago, Laboratory
experts conducted an on-the-scene examination of the crime scene premises at Chicago
and have brought back to the Laboratory for examination certain items of evidence which
were recovered during the search. This material is being handled expeditiously.

On the evening of 1/15/70, SAC Marlin W. Johnson of Chicago advised by
telephone that as an extension of the Department's request for technical assistance, .
Departmental representatives further desire FBI Laboratory examination be made, if
evidence previously recovered by local authorities and now in the custody of such
authorities. Johnsén further advised that on 1/14/70, pursuant to Departmental adtion,
Judge William Campbell, Chief Judge, USDC, Chicago, had issued a court order
directing the Chicago Police to turn over to the FBI Laboratory all evidence recovered
and held by them in connection with their examination of the crime scene premises; and
similarly directing the State Attorney's Office to turn over to the FBI Laboratory all
| une taken by the police from the Black Panther Party as a result of the raid* (All these
weapons are in the custody of the State Attorney's Office as contrasted to the other
evidence which is in the custody of the Police Department.) To insure an orderly
turnover of thigsevidence so that all interests of the parties involved would be protected,
SAC Johngon adfised that a conference was held in Chicago on 1/15/70, attended by
SAC Johason, Maperintendent of Chicago Police James Conlisk, Jr., Director of Chicago
Crime Igboratgry David Purtell, Assistant State Attorney. Thomas Hett, Deputy Attorney
