The report is quoted in part as follows:
"On May 16 the Veterans Council of the Independent Citizens Committee of the
Arts, Sciences and Professions sponsored a rally at Madison Square Garden. The
speakers were Walter Bemstein, former correspondent of Yanks; Marion Hargrove,
commander of the Duncan-Peris Post, American Legions Russell Nixon, Washington
representative of the UB; Tom Neil, veterans director of the UE......+FRANK SENATRA
AND Gene Kelly, actor, Who presideds....++s.
Problems of housing, racial and religious tolerance end jobs were raised by
other speakers with varying emphasis, SINATRA concluded his plea for tolerance
with the almost perfect non sequitur: "Tolerance also means the right of the
Chinese people to decide for themselves the kind of government they want." Franco's
