A confidential informant of knowa reliability advised that Frank Sinatra was elected as one of the Vice-Chairman of the Hollywood Branch, tollywood, California, of the Independent Citizens Committees of tne Arte, Selences and Professions on April 14, 2156. fhe “Kew York Journal American," New York City, issue of May 15, 1946, carried an article to the effect thet a rally would be held in adison Square Garden, New York City on May 16, 1946, under the auspices of the ’ Veterans Council of the Independent Citizens Committee of the Arts, Sciences and Professions. A confidential informant of known reliability ‘who attended the above rally advised that Frank sinatra was one of the speakers and that he spoke on the subject of tolerance. According to informant, Sinatra concluded his talk with the atatement "tolerance also means the right of the Chinese peopie to decide tnemselves tre kind of government they he) (100-3-73-103, p13,1h$ 100-338592-a; ad" 2/2 Peoples Wort a feed as the “Daily Worker," issue of May 21, 1946, quoted Frank Sinatra as denying charges that he was “crooning Anericen bobby soxers into the hands of the Communists." The article set forth that a representative of the "Knights of Columbus” alleged ttrat .— Sinatra had aligned himself with Communists waen hé spoke at a "Red rally of 16,000 left-wingera in Madiaén Square Garden" in Hew York City. According to the article Sinatra stated that it was a rally sponsored by the Veterans Committee of the Independent Citizens Comittee of the Arts, Sciences and Profeasiona, urging the passage of legislation to provide housing for’ veterans, Sinatra was quoted as saying "the minute someone trys to help the Little guy he is called a Communist." - 7 ~
