when SAC, S. K. McKee of Newark called me at 4
the above time and date I asked him whether or not he had
heard any rumors to the effect that Frank Sinatra had. paid aot,
$40,000 to obtein a 4-F classification, Mr. NcKee stated a! °
that he had heard nothing to this effect, .

I told McKee that. someone had written to Walter
Winchell stating that the FBI is supposed to be investi-
gating & report that Sinatra hed paid, through his manager,
#40, 000 to obtain a 4-F classification. One of the doctors
who conducted Sinatra's physical examination is reported to’
have "talked too much" in a beer parlor. A former schoolmate .
of Sinatra's from Highland, New Jersey is also reported us
saying that Sinatra hus no more ear drum trouble than General Dy.
McArthur. This anonymous informent ulso wrote in his letter oe
to Winchell that mothers arnund that section who have sons in
the service are planning a petition to President Roosevelt
asking for a re-exumination of Sinatra by a neutral board of
examiners. :
' T asked SAG McKee to ascogtain definitely whether
Sinatra's classification was 4-F und if so, to determine why
he received this classification. However, I told him that it
would not be necessery at this time to make a full scale in-
vestigation or to look into the charges of 340,000 being paiid
the examining doctors at Newark, McKee stuted that he woul
do this immediately and advise the Bureau of the results. |
