bine the West were aghast and blamed President Eisenhower for allowing a spy flight to take place at such a crucial moment. Only after a period of time had elapsed, and particularly in the United States, did people begin to ask questions. Questions that still remain unanswered. They wanted to know if Powers had been drugged; why did he confess S0 readily and thereby imperil his country? Why did he fail to destroy his aircraft and before he was captured why didn't he use the death needle provided for such a contingency?
