The Chicago Office has advised that a Conference of Dissident Democrats will be held at Sherman House, Chicago, Illinois, the weekend of 6/29/68. The Conference is for the purpose of dramatizing Vice President Humphrey's lack of nationwide appeal and to begin talks on political tactics ‘ to be followed should Humpbrey be nominated. The organizers of the Conference have indicated that the Conference could be a move to "delicately woo standoffish Democrats" who oppose administration policies in Vietnam and at home, but who have been cool to Senator Eugene McCarthy. The organizers of the Conference include Sanford Gottlieb, Executive Director of the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy, a pacifist group; Allard K. Lowenstein, an attorney who has been active in attempting to — defeat President Johnson; Donald 0. Peterson, who headed McCarthy's Wisconsin primary campaign; and Robert Powell, . the Director of former Senator Robert F. Kennedy 's New Jersey primary campaign.
