THE LABOR BOOK CLUB
SRIP DRIVE: The Labor Book Club ia the only book club organized by a union for labor.
It ia the only non-profit book club in America which means that all the savings re-
sulting from mass production and distribution of Labor Book Club selected tooks are
handed back to the members in the form of books priced lower than those of any. other
book club. Every charter member will want to help make the Labor Book Club the larg-
est and most successful of all book clubs. Flease urge your friends and fellow work-
ers to join at once. Use the subscription blanke attached to this memo. Ask your
shop steward or the officers of your local for more subscription blanks. Help your
local put over the Labor Book Club membership drive which every local has been urged
to atart.

R BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS: The Board, of Judges which chooses Labor Book Club Selections
is made uv of the four top officers of the UAW-CIO. R. J. Thomas. Georme F. Aaces,
Richard Frankenstein, and Walter Reuther, and the UAW International Education Director
William H. Levitt. Every selection is made by the unanimous decision of this Board.
Chofces will made from outstanding classics and current best sellers in fiction and
non-fiction as well as from previously unpublished manuscripts of particular interest
to labor.
All Labor Book Club selections will be cloth-bound, durable editions, similar to reg-
ular trade editions. They will not have so-called dust jackets, the paper covers
which are used on trade editions to carry advertising material and to prevent the
damaging of book covers on store abelves. You will be interested to mow that dust
Jackets for 20,000 trade editions consume the paper necessary to print 1,200 books.
In this period. of paper shortage, the Labor Book Club paper quota can be etretched to
allow more people to join the club by doing away with dust Jackets.

friends of Labor have come forward to congratulate the UAW-CIO on the formation of
the Labor Book Club, to emphasize the importance which this Book Club may have to all
working people.
