An article in the March 10, 1946, issue of the
"New York Journal-4merican" stated, "One of the Reds named
by the Sub-Committee was Lt. JOSEPH LASH, active leader of
the 1936-1937 Peace Strike in American colicges and close
friend of Mrs. ZLENORE,RODSEVELT, whose application for a
commission in Naval Intelligence,reportedly endorsed by
Mrs. ROOSEVELT, was turied down in 1942 after the Navy found °
that LASH attended highiy secret Young Comaunist League
meetings and“had worked closely with the Reds to carry out _ at
