She stated that she and her husband, Dr. DuBois, had travelled in excess of 7,000 miles within Ching. She said that her eyes were epened by this trip and that she and her husband found Chinese people to be the most friendly pesple in the world. she also stated that Chinese people they had met could not do enough for them. She noted that her husband had been received by the heads of the Chinese Government at a reception held for him in Peking, China, in honor of his Bist birthday. She stated that at this reception, both she and her husband received a tremendous ovation. Concerning the role of women in China, Shirley Graham stated the Chinese women have a very important role in China. She ‘stated as an example of their importance, that the Minister of Health in China is a woman as is the Minister of Justice. Shirley Graham stated to the audience that American women, in order to compete with their Chinese equivalent, must get together and work for peace and friendship and freedom and liberty. She said that women in the United States must also get inte politics and start a real political program for women. She stated that in order to do this,women will have to start in the home.
