I know for a fact that several prominent Cleveland attorneys
made the following remark," the police have no proof he committed
the crime, but they think he did, So they have allowed the
newspapers to put out a slanted viewpoint. So that when he is oS

The adults of the Sheppard family, while I do feel extremely
sorry for them too, Yet it is the youngsters, six of them, that will
have to put up with a cruel Public, that can be so extremely
cruel, all the days of the lives. This is the part that hurts so
very much. ; .
I know that your department does hot indulge in giving
out information when they are working on a case, and I know you
are an extremely busy man. But, Kr. Hoover, this is almost killing
me, to know that maybe -we could have helped him eae carrer

of publics this case got, and my being forbidden to do what I
felt I should have done at that time, ‘
