This Bureau conducted a lim ective Servieg investigation
concerning Danny Kaye, known also ag Daniel ye and David K ,ik =
August, 1944. This investigation was predicated upon raCaIpt of ING Fmatig¢n fram
two sources who alleged that Danny Kaye, the well-known stage comedian, *simt-
D/C. lated 2 gD condition which caused him to be rejected for service under
the Selective Service Act.> aie
Our inquiry developed the fact that Danny Kaye successfully
‘T. passed his preinduction physical examination on September 27, 1943, Subse-
quently,
aay Kaye was unfit for military service. Kaye was processed for induction
in the latter part of October, 1943. The Induction Station authorities
wordered him for observation to a military
hospital. After three days of observation in the military hospital, Army doctors
advised that Kaye was unfit for military duty.
' ‘The facts of the investigation were presented to the United States
Attorney in the Eastern District of New York who declined prosecution.
Subsequent information appearing in our investigative file reveals
that Kaye had affiliation with communist activities in several communist front
groups. He had appeared before the American Youth for Democracy, an organization
which has been designated pursuant to Executive Order 10450, He had expressed
himself publicly as critical of the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
He participated as a fund raiser anc wag a member of a group who flew to Washington
to protest the action of the House Committee on Un-American Activities against the
“Hollywood Ten.“ The "Hollywood Ten" consisted of a group of actors and writers
who were cited by a congressional commits vs subversive and/or members
